Mexico Electoral Body Set to Reject Somos Party Emblem Over Similarity

Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE) is expected to reject the party emblem submitted by the Somos party, citing its resemblance to the logo of the Fuerza México party, according to a report from jornada.com.mx.

The decision follows a review of the proposed emblem, which electoral officials determined was too similar to one already registered by Fuerza México. The report, published Thursday, indicates the INE is leaning toward disapproval on those grounds.

The development comes amid a broader dispute over party branding. In a separate item, jornada.com.mx noted that the Somos emblem had previously been approved. However, other coverage from El Financiero said the INE had already approved a new logo for Somos while restricting its use of the color pink. El Universal also reported that Somos has accused the INE of unfair treatment following what it called a "late" approval of its emblem.

The sequence of events suggests the INE has been weighing competing concerns: allowing Somos to distinguish itself while preventing voter confusion between parties with visually similar symbols. The potential rejection of the emblem would mark another twist in that process.

What to watch next is whether Somos challenges the INE’s decision or submits a revised emblem that avoids the visual overlap with Fuerza México’s mark.
